Essential Oils for Maturing Hair

Getting older can change the structure of your hair.  Gray starts coming in, you loose some hair.  Me, well when I was a child, I had extremely straight hair..as a teen, I permed my hair on a constant basis until I was about 18, but then my perm lasted for years!  All of a sudden I had curly hair!  So, of course I started coloring plus the fact that I used tons of styling aids, and always in the sun.  Our hair goes through a lot of abuse.  Since I lost all this weight, my hair started falling out and breaking off.  This can happen when you make such a drastic change in your lifestyle....

But you have to make sure you eat enough protein and there are essential oils and carrier oils that can help.  Plus making sure you get Biotin can help too.

I have recently started using essential oils that are targeted to Mature Hair.  My husband has long hair and I have him using a blend designed for men.  

In this post, I use both Spark Naturals Essential Oils and The Ananda Apothecary Essential Oils. 

Both are Certified Therapeutic Grade oils and companies that I highly recommend! 

The following are Essential Oil blends that help stimulate growth for maturing hair. 

Both blends, you will want to add to 2 Tablespoons of carrier oil.  I prefer coconut oil. 

There are some people that will add to their shampoos or conditioner, which if fine, but very little of the oils get absorbed into the scalp when you do this.  I recommend doing a scalp massage 3-4 times a week.  You can massage them into the scalp before bedtime, and leave in overnight. Just make sure you put a towel down.  Or you can just put them in a hour or so before your shower. 

Women's Healthy Stimulating Hair Blend

To 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) of carrier oil, add the following blend.   (if using coconut oil, slightly warm to a liquid state. Do not use Fractionated Coconut oil as you will want the benefits of pure coconut oil. I get mine from HERE )

8 drops of  Lavender (regenerative) 

8 drops of Rosemary (I use Rosemary Verbenone)  (Stimulating to the Scalp) 

8 drops of Myrtle (antiseptic, gently stimulating and regenerative)

16 drops of Carrot Root (High in carotenes, can stimulate follicle metabolism and hair growth) or Carrot Seed  (Aids in revitalizing tired skin and scalp on a cellular level. Supports detoxification)

Men's Healthy Stimulating Hair Blend

To 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) of carrier oil, add the following blend.   (if using coconut oil, slightly warm to a liquid state. Do not use Fractionated Coconut oil as you will want the benefits of pure coconut oil. I get mine from HERE )

8 drops of Sage (Known for stimulating  hair growth. Used in a lot of scalp and hair tonic)

8 drops of Helichrysum (Highly regenerative) 

8 drops of Rosemary (I use Rosemary Verbenone) Stimulating to Scalp) 

16 drops of Carrot Root (High in carotenes, can stimulate follicle metabolism and hair growth) or Sea Buckthorn (provides a wealth of supportive nutrients for cellular metabolism)

If there is a problem with Dandruff, you can cut back a couple of drops of one of the Essential Oils and add a couple of drops of Meleulca or Tea Tree. 

If you are like me, and have gone through that "change of life" you can also cut the Myrtle in half and add 4 drops of Clary Sage. 

For women, Clary Sage can be especially balancing, particularly where regular hormone production is the source of hair loss or slow hair growth. Proper estrogen metabolism on the cellular level is critical for beautiful hair, and older women in particular may really benefit from one-half of one percent Clary Sage included in their personal recipes. Another option for these blends is to mix a 2 teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in 4 oz spray bottle of filtered water and add your essential oils.  I use this as a leave in conditioner.  The Apple Cider Vinegar smell does not last long but it makes your hair very soft.
